Thankfully, choosing a learning goal was not too difficult for me. Mainly because throughout grade 9, I was already thinking of the possible things I could do for my personal project. When coming up with the possible things I could do, the first thing I did was think about my personal interests and what I have been trying to get myself into and I came up with 3 things, basketball, investment and photography. Out of the three, I ultimately chose photography and decided that I would make a photography book with different styles of photography. In order to accomplish that, the things I would have to learn (my learning goal) are the different styles of photography and how to create an aesthetically pleasing photography book. I chose photography instead of investment and basketball because that’s the most recent thing I’ve been getting into; I got a camera in December 2019 and took it on a trip with me to take photos, specifically landscapes and portraits. However, since then, I have not had the opportunity to do anything else with my camera and I thought that the personal project was the perfect opportunity for me to make use of my camera and not only stay in my comfort zone but also learn different styles of photography to make myself a better and more versatile photographer.
From my learning goal, I hope that I will be able to create a photography book that not only looks good but also incorporates different styles of photography (anywhere from 5-10 styles of photography). The product will be an aesthetically pleasing photo book with different styles of photography with captions for each photo. I chose to make a photo book because I wanted something I could look back on and see my progress and growth as a photographer. I also wanted to make something personal where I could express myself with the pictures, designs, and captions.
This product has helped me to understand and appreciate the effort needed to get the best photos. Making the product impacted me as it allowed me to put the things I learned on the field and adapt whilst implementing the things I’ve learned. Overall, the entire process made me more confident in my own abilities as a photographer and helped me grow as a photographer as well by allowing me to add more variety to the photos I take.
