In life, we find ourselves experiencing different events and circumstances whether it would be good or bad. We could say that good events make life worth living, but the bad events shape us into a better person and are the key ingredient to creating good events if dealt with properly. The sole purpose of making mistakes is for us to learn from them in order to not repeat it. However, as us teens who are still undergoing puberty and are trying to find our true identities, most of us are still unsure of what is considered to be right or wrong. The easiest way for us to find out is through trial and error but most of us are not willing to do it as making mistakes is often stigmatized in the ‘’teen-world’’ and doing so could lead to petty drama stemming from either hatred, jealousy, or immaturity. Therefore, In this project, I would like to share an experience that I have gone through and overcame which has gotten me out of a really terrible mindset, impacted my outlook, and made me more mature. My goal for this project is to research different concepts of mental health. Then illustrate and analyze those concepts in a collection of daily artwork and analysis.
The global context for my project would be Identities and Relationships as it touches upon things like identity, mental health, and more relating to it which directly correlates to my goal statement which is to raise mental health awareness by sharing an experience of mine through a collection of daily artwork. It has helped me guide my project by setting a base foundation for the different themes explored in the experience I had shared.
The finished products are both a soft copy and a hard copy of my artbook with the daily-artwork compiled in it as well as its art analysis. The art book is titled One Day and it consists of 60 artworks narrating a past experience of mines. It contains 3 main psychological concepts which are then explained in the art analysis.
The product is able to tie well with the chosen global perspective which is identities and relationships as the artbook visualizes while the analysis analyzes how the past relationships I had with other people had negatively impacted my relationship with myself. I also provided a little self-reflection regarding the experience in the analysis which touches upon the things I have learned from what had happened alongside the many realizations that had struck me after the experience to showcase how much I have grown as an individual. The hardcover of the art book was made with good quality materials and its design matches well with the minimalistic monochrome themed artworks.
This entire project is mainly based on reflecting on my past experience and how it has taught me a lot of valuable lessons which are then visualized in my daily artwork alongside analyzed in its art analysis. Through this project, I was able to keep a balance between doing tasks while simultaneously taking care of my own needs. This was also emphasized in the project itself as not only does it tie in with the global perspective of Identities and Relationships but a lot of it has to do with the fact that keeping things balanced is very crucial to keeping our mental healths in check as the most important relationship, is the relationship we have with ourselves, therefore, putting ourselves first, can help fulfil the needs of others. And finally, I have learned to be more of a risk-taker. Although this has been my first ever personal project, I tried my best to push myself out of my comfort zone and explore the things I was yet familiar with. Choosing to draw every day and changing my goal statement halfway in the process was very risky as it could impact and interfere with other tasks that were assigned to me. It was overwhelming in the beginning but I managed to push through and I finally made it.
