If you want to help out your fellow peers and get involved at Medina High School, Hope Squad could be a great way to do that. Hope Squad consists of a group of students who are trained every year on how to respond and help their fellow classmates. Hope Squad’s main goal is to help students who are in need and reach out to struggling peers and refer them to a counselor or other trusted adult. Hope Squad has been around for many years and has helped countless students.
As of this year, to get involved with Hope Squad, other than getting nominated by your peers, you can make your own application and turn it into Mr. Blue. The application process consists of getting references from your teachers and answering a prompt about why you think you should be selected to be in the group and how you would benefit the group. Unfortunately, the applications were already due to be considered for this year's group, but you can apply by the start of next year. Hope Squad meets once a month at lunch to go over some new lessons. There is also a Hope Squad retreat day where everyone in Hope Squad meets at a location in Medina. This retreat day lasts a whole school day. During this day there are guest speakers and the students learn about different resources and how to respond in specific situations.
Hope Squad is a great way to get involved at Medina High School. Emersen Willis, an active member of Hope Squad, said, “This club is important because of its purpose; to give students someone they feel comfortable speaking to to get the help they need and deserve.” If helping other students is something you are interested in, you should consider joining Hope Squad next year.
