Online Learning

In online learning, technology is used to deliver course content, interactive activities, and assessments. College instructors are increasingly using online technologies to supplement or replace many of the course activities that used to be confined to the classroom.

What is Online Learning?

Online courses can be delivered in a partially online or completely online format. An online course is often associated with these characteristics.

  • It is Internet-based - Courses are delivered through the use of Internet-connected computers, course websites, and digital communication tools. Course syllabi, content, activities, and assessments are accessed completely online. Instructors may interact with students online through virtual office hours or may provide lectures online.

  • It is Flexible - Course content is accessible at your convenience. Unless otherwise noted by an instructor, there are no specific "classroom" meeting times. You will complete weekly activities and assessments according to specific due dates, but around your schedule.

  • It is Interactive - You will use communicate and collaborate with others through email, chat, discussion boards, virtual meeting spaces, and other online tools.

  • It is Rigorous - Online learning is as rigorous as traditional learning in a course taught face-to-face. Good study habits, time management, and basic computer skills are the foundation of being successful in online learning.
