Gmail & Google Apps
When you become a student at MATC, you will receive information about your MATC network account including your college email address. Your MATC Gmail account will be your official and primary means of communication in your courses and all college services. Check this account regularly for important announcements!
What is My MATC Gmail Address?
Your address will be your MATC network account username@gmatc.matc.edu. This is different than the type of address given to faculty or your personal Gmail account. If you have a personal Gmail account, you may toggle between your personal Gmail and MATC Gmail inboxes using these instructions.
How Do I Access My MATC Gmail?
Once you receive your MATC Network username and password, you may log into the MATC Portal to access your MATC Gmail. See the MATC Library's Gmail FAQ for details. If you have your own personal Gmail account, make sure that you log out of it before accessing your MATC Gmail through the MATC Portal. Or, review these instructions to toggle between accounts.
If you need help with a login problem, call the Help Desk at (414) 297-6541 or use the Online Password Manager to retrieve or reset your username and password.
Important Security Change Coming to MATC Gmail and Google Apps
As you have read in the MATC Week Ahead, MATC is implementing a multi-factor authentication (MFA) system called DUO for all students to securely access their MATC Google Apps, such as Gmail, Calendar, Meet, Docs, and Drive. This is an essential step towards protecting our students and their sensitive information. DUO is a free smartphone app for Apple and Android devices.
All students will be required to use DUO MFA by April 2023. If you have not already enrolled in DUO, you will receive an email from Duo Security (no-reply@duosecurity.com) with information to enroll.
Review the following resources or log into the myMATC Portal for more information about this change. If you have additional questions about DUO, please contact the IT Helpdesk at 414-297-6541 or email helpdesk@matc.edu.
How Do I Use Gmail?
If you are unfamiliar with using Gmail, see the Getting Started with Gmail Tutorials and Gmail Help Center.
We recommend the following tips to customize your Gmail experience.
Turn off Gmail's Conversation View and use the Gmail Search tools.
Check your Gmail's Spam folder for course-related messages sent to spam. If you suspect that you are missing emails sent from Blackboard, see these troubleshooting instructions.
Use Gmail Labels to organize messages.
Add a professional-looking signature to your Gmail settings.
Finding Messages Sent from Blackboard in Gmail - A Few Tips
Emails originating from Blackboard's communication tools will send messages to faculty and student MATC Gmail accounts. If you believe that you did not receive an email sent from the Blackboard system, see these troubleshooting steps. Sometimes Gmail sorts messages sent from Blackboard to spam. You may unmark emails as spam so that new messages sort to your inbox going forwards. Students should use their official MATC Gmail instead of a personal email address to communicate with faculty and departments. This will help ensure a prompt response; messages sent from personal email addresses may sort to spam based on individual MATC Gmail settings.
If you have further questions about your MATC Gmail, see this resource and contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@matc.edu
What are Google Apps?
When you are logged into your MATC Gmail, you will have access to Google Apps. These are web-based, mobile-friendly tools that you can use to take notes, create study schedules, collaborate with classmates, and more. When you are logged into your MATC Gmail, click on the app icon in the top-right corner of the screen to view and access Google Apps.
