Teachers involve all students in questioning
This Standard has links to many of the Principles of Great Teaching. As such it is one of the key tools in the teachers toolbox.
There are many ways that this can be achieved, but some suggestions are:
There is no expectation that students should never raise their hands, nor that every questioning session should use one of these techniques. However, it is clear that relying only on those who raise their hands gives the teacher a distorted picture of reality within their classroom, as they can assume all students understand based on the responses of the confident few.
The Importance of Wait Time
