Central idea: Personal choices can impact the environment.
Following our learning reflection of learning in Module 5, our new central idea was introduced. We started by looking at the world and how wonderful it is. We used descriptive language to describe what we can see. during this time, we also took the time to appreciate the diverse weather we experience from week to week - warm sun and blue skies to grey skies and wet grass.
While talking about our world we all came to the understanding that we have to look after it.
For us, this included not wasting paper and recycling and reusing what we have. This lead us to think about recycling throughout the school. Team Oak made recycling trays to distribute
We decided that we should not waste ANY paper so we cut the writing and drawings off used paper to use for our paintings and drawings.
We spoke at length about other ways that we can help our environment.
Jason: We can turn the lights off when we leave the room.
Xander: Turn the tap off when you brush your teeth so you don't waste water.
Imogen: Don't drop litter.
The children were shocked to see how the sea life is affected by the plastic pollution in the oceans.
We read 'The odd fish' and looked at the first page and spotted many objects that should not be there.
Louie: A knife and fork shouldn't be in the sea they should be in the kitchen drawer.
Adil: Fork... no sea.
Louis: We should get the litter out of the sea.
During child-led learning time we had a go at picking the litter from the water while developing our fine motor skills. The children are enthused and highly motivated by our current inquiry and I look forward to updating you on our learning journey shortly.
