Central idea: Water management can play a role which influences the environment.
Firstly, a big well done for all the class for participating in Sports Day. They worked brilliantly in their teams and gave their all.
Our new inquiry centres on water and its importance to the environment. We have been studying how humans have used and managed water throughout history, exploring how the Egyptians used the Nile to build their civilisation, the creation of ocean-going ships for exploration and trade, developments of hydroelectric power, and so on. The class are becoming more adept at looking beyond a fact - asking themselves the consequences of an event, development or scenario. Verity, for example, explained that water pollution not only impacts wildlife and the environment and threatens people's health, but it will also mean higher taxes on people to clean up the mess. Felix explained that droughts will not only harm wildlife and the environment, but will impact food production which will in turn cause higher world food prices and, because poorer people wouldn't be able to afford food, famine would follow too. Making these links means a greater understanding of the world.
