Central idea: Personal choices can impact the environment.
So far this module we have began looking at how our personal choices can impact the environment. The children already have some prior knowledge on this from their passionate engagement with saving the Arctic and the polar bears.
The children shared that:
"We live in the United Kingdom in England, in Marden." - Arthur
"If we do little bits of help in Marden then we help the whole world." - Dottie
"Litter gets dropped on the floor then the wind blows it into drains and end up in oceans." - Samuel
"We have to reduce, reuse, recycle." - Tabitha
"You can help, recycling makes sure things do to the right place." - Seb
We began looking at how human actions are impacting the world and how this has had an effect on the climate.
We now know that some places get regular floods or no rainfall for long periods of time. The children's inquisitive minds wanted to explore the rainfall in Marden, so we made a rain gauge and a wind vane.
"There was not much rain last night, look the rain gauge is nowhere near full." - Callan
"It is moving." - Freddie
"The direction of the wind is changing." - Max
