1Spruce    Learning Update

Central idea: Celebrations can enhance the way we see the world. 

Spruce class have been doing excellent learning to explore our second line of inquiry, 'why we celebrate and how celebrations make us feel.' To do this we have been looking at the text 'Kipper's Birthday'. Year 1 decided that they would like to throw a birthday party for Kipper to find out more about how celebrations make us feel. They have made all of the amazing decorations, party hats and even designed, baked and decorated cakes in teams! We enjoyed eating our cakes and playing party games. 

Aside from our inquiry, we have been deepening our knowledge of addition and subtraction. We have been looking at the part-whole model, fact families and have been looking at subtraction through taking away. To do this we used sweets! 

The children have been doing lots of nativity practise and they are looking forward to their grown-ups coming to see it!
