Juniper Learning Update

Central idea: Families can support the local community.

After our walk through the local community, to the church, the children learnt that the church contributes to the community of Marden.

When asked what the church provides:

Ozzy said: "Messy play."

Keira said: "They have a food bank for anyone."

Sophia said: "Singing shows for older people."

Freya said: "A prayer net to send love to people."

The visit to the church prompted us to think about what we can do to help our community. We decided that we could help the food bank by gathering donations from those who are able to contribute. The children made posters asking for donations for tinned food, jars of food, pasta and other items.

In our classroom, the children have recreated the local bakery and cafe with team junipers chefs working on their fine motor skills by pretend  sandwich, cake and tea making. The children used their phonic knowledge to write menus for their cafe.  The children have been using Google Earth to explore the community of Marden on the interactive whiteboard. Jamie searched for his house telling his friends what is nearby and how to get there, Esme and Freya worked together to find the library and Isaac managed to navigate from the school to the church and talk about what he passed on the way. This week, we are considering the idea that some foods can be planted from a seed and that some food waste scraps can be used to grow more food.

We look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 5th June. Have a wonderful break
