Central idea: Conflict shapes society

Our Learning This Week

On Monday, we were joined by Gayle from Portals to the Past to deliver a World War 2 enrichment workshop. The children thoroughly enjoyed their day, learning even more about the conflict and had the opportunity to hold and pull the trigger of a genuine British rifle, to try on some uniforms of the different armed forces that served during World War 2 and to race with frontline stretchers (although we learned quickly that the children would not make great stretcher bearers).

We have continued our historical inquiry journey this week by producing a double page spread about the Blitz and how it affected the British people. We have also learned about kindertransport and how Britain supported the Jewish population in central Europe during the war years. Inspired by film and animation, we completed our descriptive narratives depicting a scene from a  World War 2 battlefield. In art, we have been planning our designs for the clay tiles we will be creating after half term.
