Juniper Learning Update

Central idea: Families can support the local community.

Isaac has written: "My family love me and I love them."

Keira has written: "My family give me treats."

Oliver has written: "My family loves me and hugs me. I am happy they keep me safe."

Freya has written: "My family plays with me and it makes me happy. When my mum plays puzzles it makes me excited. I love my family."

This module, we are spending time looking into our families and the uniqueness of each of our families. The first text we have used to facilitate our learning is 'A Handful of Buttons' by Carmen Parets Luque. The children have used the family portraits you provided to draw their families for our classroom display. While looking at the similarities and differences Esme said: "I have 3 people in my family and 1 dog, that makes 4. I have 1 less than Montana has in her family." While exploring what makes a family Flora said: "To have a family you need to be loved and feel special." Finn said: "The best thing about family is you always have someone to play with at home." Cameron said: "My family are the best, they are kind." We continued to look at family and those that care about us, but in the wider sense, such as our friends, teachers and members of the local community.

Moving forward, we are going to look more at the community of Marden and how our families might positively contribute to the local community. I am looking forward to hearing what wonderful ideas the children in the early years can suggest to further support the Marden community.
