2Maple Learning Update

Central idea: Artforms can be used to express ideas and feelings.

We have begun our second line of inquiry this week, whereby we have explored the role of art in culture and society. We have studied the life of Wassily Kandinsky by creating a timeline of the important events in his life and writing biographically to help us understand what influenced his artwork.

We have enjoyed expressing ourselves through dance, using Kandinsky's artwork as inspiration, and we have also enjoyed our first Nativity rehearsals!

In maths this week, we have been calculating subtraction across a ten, which has involved using base 10 equipment to show concrete expression of making an exchange.

In science, we have studied materials and their properties, focusing on using scientific language when describing properties, such as transparent, translucent, opaque, flexible, rough. You may like to continue these conversations at home to see if your child can explain why they wouldn't want to wear a metal raincoat or glass trousers!

Congratulations to Ella for using her journalistic skills during a special scientific visit this week; Maple were enthralled to listen to her detailed presentation and to hear such clear explanations. Well done.
