Y3 Summer 2

8th June

In Science, we investigated how different materials effect friction.

10th June

In Maths, 3M created angles using everyday equipment. We marked where we could see them and made different sized angles.

13th June

In Maths, 3M created 2D shapes by creating angles using pin boards and elastic bands. We then used our 'Right angle checker' to look for Right angles around the classroom.

21st June

In Maths, 3M we looked for both vertical and horizontal lines around the classroom.

22nd June

Today was Windrush day. We learnt about how the Windrush generation brought new music to Britain. For example calypso and reggae music. We had fun playing the steel pans, drew flags, did some painting, drew some people and sang songs.

24th June

In preparation for our visit to the theatre next week. We researched and learnt about some of the women in the musical show. We worked as a team to research and shared what we had learnt to the class.

29th June

Today was  finally Sports day! We had as much fun as we possibly could considering the unfortunate downpour.

30th June

3M thoroughly enjoyed watching the show 'Fantastically great women who changed the world' at Stratford East theatre. Amazingly, the show linked with the women we have been studying for our curriculum 'Challenging stereotypes' and so the children could relate and enjoy the show more. It was all about a girl called Jade who was lost at a museum and along her journey she met women: Frida Kahlo, Rosa Parks, Amelia Earhart, Marie Curie, Emmeline Pankhurst just to name a few.

1st July

In Art, we created Mood boards based on the theme Challenging stereotypes. Each focussed on a different prejudice. awe thought about the different colours, textures and layout of the images.

5th July

In Maths we have begun the topic of time. We matched both Analogue clock with the digital time and learnt about both a.m. and p.m.

6th July

In DT, we learnt about the different parts of a kite: the bridle, line, tow point, keel, sail, spars and tail.

We labelled and wrote down the function of each.

7th July

In DT, we learnt about 4 different shapes of Kite. They included:  Sled, Rokkaku, Delta and Diamond. In pairs, we chose the shape kite and then made a prototype out of newspaper.

8th July

In DT, we began creating the the structure of our kite. We had to measure the dowel against our newspaper prototype and then cut using hacksaws. We had to then join the dowel pieces using masking tape.
