Y3 Summer 1

 20th and 22nd April 2022

In Science, we had to investigate a crime scene as there was a plant murderer lurking at Manor Primary. We had quickly realised that the plant was gruesomely pulled apart into different parts. We soon realised that this plant was once alive and we needed to discover who was the 'root' cause of this horrible event! Together we could name the different parts of the plant and discuss why we thought the plant was living! We also looked at the the roots more closely using magnify glasses. We created our own roots by tying string onto one of our team members. We talked about how the number of roots effect the amount of water being absorbed.

 20th and 21st April 2022

Our topic this term is all about 'Challenging Stereotypes'. We began this topic by drawing different professions. For example a Doctor, Builder, Pilot, Nurse, Teacher, Footballer etc. Some of the gender stereotypical views were that all professional footballers are men and all nurses are women.  We discussed why we might think this and how the media and our experience may effect our views. We learnt that we can choose the profession we want irrespective of our gender.

25th April 2022

After looking at the roots last week for Science, we did an experiment to investigate how the number of roots effected how much water was absorbed. We created various number of roots around the classroom using cotton wool. We found out the more roots a plant has the more absorption of water there would dues to increased surface area.

29th April 2022

In Maths, we have been learning all about statistics. Today we learn't how to create bar charts and and answer questions about the data.

In Science, we placed some celery and flowers into beakers of dye so that the the roots were completely covered by the solution. We made some predictions of what we thought might happen to different parts of the plant.

On Wednesday 4th May, we observed that the veins in the leaves turned orange and Red, parts of the white flower petals turned red. This tells us that water is absorbed through the roots into the stem and then finally into the leaves and flower.

6th May 2022

We took advantage of the great weather and decided to read for pleasure outside in the playground.

9th May 2022

In Science, we have begun to investigate what happens to a plant that is placed in light ( On top of the cupboard) and compare this to a plant that has no light ( Inside the cupboard).  We will be drawing and writing about our results each week.

In Unit, we looked at the history of a woman's right to vote. We did a comparison activity, then and now. We learnt about how the Suffragettes fought for women's right to vote.
