Green roofs are beneficial to the community since they reduce energy costs by storing heat, and help regulate water runoff. Implementing green roofs will also provide a larger variety of pollinating plants and agricultural areas to the campus and its residents.
Our main idea when planning various prototypes was the involvement of students on campus. To do this we created our prototypes centered around this idea by having an internship position, a green roof tour, and also creating a storyboard.
In Conclusion
To conclude, having opportunities to be involved in urban sustainability projects, such as creating and sustaining green roofs, can help students grow and teach others ways to improve the environment through reducing their carbon footprint. The three possible approaches for prototypes that were brainstormed are as follows: a student internship, leading green roof tours on campus, and including a green roof storyboard. A student internship program will help students to get involved and to have their own voice in the matter, and they will be able to get creative to find ways for improvement. The green roof tours on campus will be an informative and interactive experience for all ages to learn about green roofs. The green roof storyboard will provide helpful background information explaining green roofs and why they are beneficial for everyone. This project initiative will benefit many aspects of the environment and to the people as well.
