Hybrid MATH 90 Quick Start Guide

Welcome

My name is Mike Greenberg, and I'll be your instructor for MATH 90.

Please take a moment to view important course dates and details. In particular, please note that this is a 12-week course that does not begin until the week of February 26th.

This course is taught in a hybrid format. Nearly 90% of the instructional content will take place online in Canvas, but we will also have required weekly in-person meetings for discussions and group activities. This is more like an online course that happens to have some in-person activities, rather than an in-person course that happens to have an online component.

Online Portion

Most of the instructional materials are built into Canvas through videos I've created, and you will go through this material on your own time each week. Also, the homework assignments will be done online via WebAssign. Each person has a different background and works at a different pace, but most students will need to spend 15-20 hours per week for online instruction, studying, and homework. If you expect this to be a 5-hour per week commitment, you will be sorely mistaken when the class starts.

In-Person Portion

During our in-person meetings, we will have discussions and demonstrations focusing on that week's content, we will have group activities, and you will also be taking your tests during these in-person meetings.

There are plenty of other materials below, including a graphic organizer that explains how a typical week in the class will look, some information about signing up for WebAssign, and a sample discussion page so you can see how the discussions will look:
