MATH 90 Lesson 5 - Solving Quadratic Equations by Factoring

Now that we've gotten through all of the different factoring methods, we can finally use factoring as a tool in solving equations that contain polynomials. Factoring is key in solving polynomial equations, and you can see just how this works in the following video.

Note: There is a mistake in the following video. In the first problem, the solutions should be x = 3 and x = -2, not +2.

Even though we've been focusing on quadratic equations, this will work for equations that contain higher-degree polynomials. We'll see more of this later in the semester when we look more at polynomial functions.

I have recorded several videos of worked-out example problems, which you can access at the link below. Once you start to get the hang of the problems, try them out before you watch the video to see if you're solving them correctly. And if you're not, compare your steps to those in the video to learn from your mistakes. This is a great opportunity for you to make sure you're doing each step correctly and mastering these skills!
