Dance courses focus on the various characteristics and movements of dance techniques. Students will increase their understanding of the four basic strands of dance: Foundations-perception, creative expression-the artistic process, creative expression - performance, historical and cultural relevance, and critical evaluation & response. Dance I will be a prep course for dance II-IV. Students in Dance II-IV are required to participate in a dance concert in the spring semester and it is optional for Dance I students. NOTE: There is a fee associated with this class since dance attire must be worn in each of the dance classes.
DANCE I
Grade: 9-12 Credit: 1
Prerequisite: Teacher approval only, audition-based
This course is designed for beginner level students. Students will learn appropriate level physical and academic elements of Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Precision Dance, Cultural Dance, and Performance Studies. Students may perform at the spring concert, and participate in upper-level student choreographic works show. Mandatory dance attire and equipment is required for class, as designated by the instructor. Note: Dance I satisfies PE requirement. Dance II-IV satisfies a Fine Art Credit
DANCE II-IV
Grade: 10-12 Credit: 1

This course is designed for intermediate to advanced level students only. DANCE Team Prep I-II

This course is a dynamic course designed for students who aspire to audition for the Junior Varsity or Varsity level dance teams. Students will engage in various activities that enhance their physical fitness, rhythm, and performance techniques. Throughout the year, participants will: learn basic dance choreography and drill routines, develop strength, flexibility, and endurance through conditioning exercises, practice teamwork and communication skills essential for successful group performances, gain an understanding of dance team traditions and expectations, and prepare for auditions through mock tryouts and constructive feedback sessions. There is a mandatory performance in the spring for the Cavalette Spring Show for this course. Mandatory dance attire and equipment are required for class, as designated by the instructor. Note: Dance II-IV satisfies a Fine Art Credit
JV RED RUBY DANCE TEAM I-IV

Prerequisite: Audition
JV Dance Team is designed for students who have participated in a spring audition by professional dance adjudicators and have been placed in the class by the Dance Team Director(s). Students will be required to attend before and after school rehearsals, public performances, contests, Spring Show, and travel. Students will learn intermediate precision and technical dance skills that are essential for dance team tryouts in the following spring. Students will perform in school-related/community performances. Students will earn 0.5 credit for PE in the fall semester of the first two years of participation in JV Dance. NOTE: Mandatory dance attire and equipment is required for class, as designated by the instructor(s).
CAVALETTES DANCE TEAM II-IV

Prerequisite: Audition
Varsity Dance Team is designed for students who have participated in a spring audition by professional dance adjudicators and have been placed in the class by the Dance Team Director(s). Students will be required to attend before and after school rehearsals, public performances, contests, Spring Show and travel. Students will learn advanced precision and technical dance skills that are essential for dance team tryouts in the following spring. Students will perform in school-related/community performances. NOTE: This course is double blocked. Students will earn 0.5 credit for PE in the fall semester of the first two years of participation in Cavalettes. All students will earn 1.0 credit for Fine Arts every year for participation in Cavalettes. Mandatory expenses incur.
WORLD DANCE FORMS I

Come and learn about dance styles from across the world. This course will specifically address cultural dances. Students will also have the opportunity to research culture and performance opportunities. All genders are welcome to participate. Note: This course satisfies a Fine Art credit.
