PRINCIPLES OF ARCHITECTURE

Grade: 9–10 Credit: 1 Course #1689

Prerequisites: None

Principles of Architecture provides an overview of the various fields of architecture, interior design, and construction management. Achieving proficiency in decision making and problem-solving is an essential skill for career planning and lifelong learning. Students use self-knowledge, education, and career information to set and achieve realistic career and educational goals. Job-specific training can be provided through training modules that identify career goals in trade and industry areas. Classroom studies include topics such as safety, work ethics, communication, information technology applications, systems, health, environment, leadership, teamwork, ethical and legal responsibility, employability, and career development and include skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and reading technical drawings.


Level 2 Courses:


ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN I

Grade: 10–12 Credit: 1 Course #1654

Prerequisites: Algebra l and English l. Recommended Prerequisites: Geometry, Principles of Architecture.

In Architectural Design I, students will gain knowledge and skills needed to enter a career in architecture or construction or prepare a foundation toward a postsecondary degree in architecture, construction science, drafting, interior design, or landscape architecture. Architectural Design I include the knowledge of the design, design history, techniques, and tools related to the production of drawings, renderings, and scaled models for nonresidential or residential architectural purposes. 


INTERIOR DESIGN I

Grade: 10–12 Credit: 1 Course #1613            

Prerequisites: Algebra l and English l. Recommended Prerequisites: Principles of Architecture.

Interior Design I is a technical course that addresses the psychological, physiological, and sociological needs of individuals by enhancing the environments in which they live and work. Students will use knowledge and skills related to interior and exterior environments,

construction, and furnishings to make wise consumer decisions, increase productivity, promote sustainability, and compete in the industry. NOTE: This course requires a course fee


Level 3 Courses:


CIVIL ENGINEERING AND ARCHITECTURE (Honors)

Grade: 10–12 Credit: 1 Course #1655

Prerequisites: Algebra 2 and Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) OR Architectural Design I

This is a study of the design and construction of residential and commercial building projects. The course includes an introduction to many of the varied factors involved in building design and construction including components and systems, structural design, stormwater management, site design, utilities and services, cost estimation, energy efficiency, heat loss/gain, beam design/analysis, surveying and careers in the Civil and Architectural industry. The students will utilize industry-leading 3D software Autodesk Revit Architecture to create and test their own residential and commercial designs. At the conclusion of the course, the student will have a better understanding of design and construction of the residential and commercial industries. Students will be required to take an End-of-Course exam administered by Project Lead the Way (PLTW). 


ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN ll 

Grade: 11–12 Credit: 2 Course #1668

Prerequisites: Architectural Design l or Interior Design II and Geometry

In Architectural Design II, students will gain advanced knowledge and skills needed to enter a career in architecture or construction or prepare a foundation toward a postsecondary degree in architecture, construction science, drafting, interior design, or landscape architecture. Architectural Design II includes the advanced knowledge of the design, design history, techniques, and tools related to the production of drawings, renderings, and scaled models for nonresidential or residential architectural purposes. 


Interior Design ll

Grade: 11–12 Credit: 2 Course #1696

Prerequisites: English ll, Geometry, and Interior Design l

Interior Design II is a technical laboratory course that includes the application of the employability characteristics, principles, processes, technologies, communication, tools, equipment, and materials related to interior design to meet industry standards.

PRACTICUM IN ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN HONORS

Grade: 12 Credit: 2 Course #1589

Prerequisite: Architectural Design ll

Practicum in Architectural Design is an occupationally specific course designed to provide technical instruction in architectural design. Safety and career opportunities are included in addition to work ethics and architectural design study.  NOTE: This course is double blocked. Please review the LTHS Practicum and Career Prep Handbook  before selecting a practicum or career prep course.


PRACTICUM IN INTERIOR DESIGN HONORS

Grade: 12 Credit: 2 Course #

Prerequisite: Interior Design II

Practicum in Interior Design is an occupationally specific course designed to provide technical instruction in interior design. Safety and career opportunities are included in addition to work ethics and interior design study.  NOTE: This course is double blocked. CAREER PREPARATION I 

Grade: 11–12 Credit: 2 Course #1626 

Prerequisite: Successful completion of two or more credits in CTE courses that are part of a coherent sequence of courses in the same CTE Program of Study.

Career Preparation I provide opportunities for students to participate in a work-based learning experience that combines classroom instruction with business and industry employment experiences. The goal is to prepare students with a variety of skills for a changing workplace. Career preparation is relevant and rigorous, supports student attainment of academic standards, and effectively prepares students for college and career success.
