Level 1 Courses:


DIGITAL MEDIA

Grade: 7-10 Credit: 1 Course #1602

Prerequisite: None

In Digital Media, students will focus on fundamental elements and principles of visual art and design. Students will design and create projects using a variety of Adobe Creative Cloud software. Students will explore career opportunities in various creative technological fields of study, as well as demonstrate employability skills and develop a working resumé. Each student will leave with an understanding of the creative technology fields as they pertain to graphic design, photography and animation.  Students will use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Animate, and Premiere.  Students will have the opportunity to earn an Adobe Photoshop Certification.   Digital Media is the Level I prerequisite course for the Animation, Graphic Design, and Commercial Photography strands within the AATVC program of study. 



PRINCIPLES OF ARTS, AUDIO-VISUAL TECHNOLOGY, & COMMUNICATIONS 

Grade: 7, 8 (1 High School Credit, Course taught in middle school only.)

Prerequisite: None

In this Video Production class, students will learn digital video fundamentals, the evolution of technology, digital camera & video camcorder operation, basic shooting and lighting techniques, as well as basic editing and exporting. In addition, students will study digital video production by planning, shooting, editing, and exporting several digital video projects throughout the year. Storyboards, shooting scripts, and cinematographic techniques are learned and employed. Students will learn some advanced video compositing methods, image control and key effects in the digital world specific to several video editing software programs. The basic principles of design and composition will also be studied and practiced.


Level 2 Courses:


ANIMATION I

Grade: 9-12 Credit: 1 Course #3024

Recommended Prerequisite: Digital Media 

Animation I is a Level II project based course in the Animation strand. This course introduces students to the history of animation and traditional animation methods and techniques as they partake in both individual and group projects. Students will explore various careers and industry standards within the animation field. Along with this, students in the Animation I course will take on the roles of many positions within the animation industry, as they practice the principles of animation, traditional and computer animation, character animation, web animation, and intro into 3D animation using a variety of industry standard animation software.


GRAPHIC DESIGN AND ILLUSTRATION I

Grade: 9-12 Credit: 1 Course #1706

Recommended Prerequisite: Digital Media 

This course spans all aspects of the advertising and visual communication industries. Students will study image editing, illustration techniques, and design principles through a hands-on approach. Students will develop an electronic portfolio to document their skills.  Students will use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator and have the opportunity to earn an Adobe Illustrator Certification.   


COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY l

Grade: 9-12 Credits: 1 Course #1598

Recommended Prerequisite: Digital Media

Commercial Photography is a Level II project based course in the AATVC program of study. This course introduces students to the history of photography and traditional photographic methods, including darkroom and experimental techniques. Students will partake in both individual and group projects as it pertains to the curriculum. Students will explore various careers and industry standards within the field of commercial photography.  Note: This class requires a $20 fee.


FASHION DESIGN I 

Grade: 9-11 Credits: 1 Course #1622 

Recommended Prerequisites: Digital Media

This course is a project based course providing students with foundational knowledge of the History of Fashion and the organization of the Fashion Industry.  Students will be expected to develop basic design and construction skills.


AUDIO/VIDEO PRODUCTION I

Grade: 8–10 Credit: 1 Course #1609            

Recommended Prerequisite for 8th graders: Principles of Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications

In addition to developing technical knowledge and skills needed for success in the Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications Career Cluster, students will be expected to develop an understanding of the industry with a focus on pre-production, production, and post-production audio and video products. No experience is necessary. Course supply requirement: Each student will be required to provide their own 16GB (minimum) SD card. 


Level 3 Courses:


GRAPHIC DESIGN AND ILLUSTRATION II \Lab

Grade: 10-12 Credits: 2 Course #1719

Prerequisite: Graphic Design and Illustration I

Students will develop advanced knowledge and skills that build on what was learned in Graphic Design and Illustration I. They will demonstrate the ability to interpret, evaluate and make design decisions to produce innovative projects while following ethical decision- making skills related to technology in art and design. Students will develop an electronic portfolio and will create logos, branding, infographics, product prototypes and packaging, poster design and large format graphics, as well as using specialized photographic techniques. Students will use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign.  Students will have the opportunity to earn a certification in Adobe Indesign.


ANIMATION II

Grade: 10-12 Credits: 2 Course #3025

Prerequisite: Animation I

Animation II is the Level III project based course within the Animation strand, which emphasizes 3D animation techniques and methods. Animation I is the prerequisite for this course. Students in this course will focus on modeling, lighting, animating, character design, story development, storyboarding and sound design. A variety of software will be utilized for multiple stages in the animation process. Individual and collaborative projects will be completed throughout the year while concentrating on industry and career standards in the animation field. Students will also build up a portfolio of work while working towards their software certification in industry standard software such as Autodesk Maya. By the end of this year students will have created a fully animated and self created animated short production.


COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY lI\Lab

Grade: 10-12 Credits: 2 Course #1627

Prerequisite: Commercial Photography I

Commercial Photography is a Level III project based course in the AATVC program of study. The prerequisite for this class is Commercial Photography I. This course expands their photography skills and introduces advanced editing and studio practices. Students will explore experimental techniques in photography using multimedia to further their skills in Commercial photographic arts and broaden the breadth of their portfolios. This course will require student participation in local, state, and national competitions in photography. Building employability skills and practices as well as a developed portfolio to prepare them for a career in business, advertising and commercial photography are essential to this course.  Note:  This class requires a $20 fee.


FASHION DESIGN II/Lab

Grade: 10–12 Credits: 2 Course #1628 

Prerequisite: Fashion Design l. 

Fashion Design II is a project based course with lab experiences in advanced construction skills, fashion figure drawing and creative design projects.


AUDIO/VIDEO PRODUCTION II/Lab Television

Prerequisite: Audio/Video Production l.

Building upon the concepts taught in Audio/Video Production, in addition to developing advanced knowledge and skills needed for success in the Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications Career Cluster, students will be expected to develop an advanced understanding of the industry with a focus on pre-production, production, and postproduction products. This course may be implemented in an audio format or a format with both audio and video. Course supply requirement: Each student will be required to provide their own 16GB (minimum) SD card.

PRACTICUM IN GRAPHIC DESIGN AND ILLUSTRATION HONORS

Grade: 11–12 Credits: 2 Course # 1688

Prerequisites: Graphic Design and Illustration ll

This course is designed to give students practical application of previously studied knowledge and skills. Practicum experiences can occur in a variety of locations appropriate to the nature and level of experience. This course requires employment to allow students to become proficient in the Graphic Design area. The coursework will focus on customer service, building on design principles, project management, specialized photographic techniques and technology. Students will participate in a teacher-approved training station (onsite or offsite, paid or unpaid) for continuation in this course; must be a minimum age of 16 and hold valid work documentation to enroll in a paid practicum experience working at least 10 hours per week. Transportation to and from the training station is the responsibility of the student. Workplace visits required by teacher of record every 6 weeks. Training station evaluation will count as 30% of the student’s grade. Onsite students will work at Cavalier Creations, a student-led design firm.

PRACTICUM IN ANIMATION HONORS

Prerequisites: Animation ll

Practicum in Animation builds upon the concepts taught in Animation II and its corequisite Animation II Lab, in addition to developing advanced technical knowledge and skills needed for success in the Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications Career Cluster, students will be expected to develop an increasing understanding of the industry with a focus on applying pre-production, production, and post-production animation products in a professional environment.  NOTE: This course is double blocked.  Please review the LTHS Practicum and Career Prep Handbook  before selecting a practicum or career prep course.  Instruction may be delivered through lab-based classroom experiences or career preparation opportunities in the field as an internship when available.

PRACTICUM IN COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY HONORS

Prerequisites: Commercial Photography Il.

Practicum in Commercial Photography is a Level IV project based course.  The pre-requisite for this class is Commercial Photography II.  In addition to developing advanced technical knowledge and skills needed for success in the Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications Career Cluster, students will be expected to develop an advanced technical understanding of the commercial photography industry with a focus on producing, promoting, and presenting professional quality photographs. PRACTICUM IN FASHION DESIGN HONORS

Practicum in Fashion Design is an occupationally specific course designed to provide technical instruction in Fashion Design. Safety and career opportunities are included in addition to work ethics and Fashion Design and Construction. Prerequisite: Successful completion of  two or more credits, including the completion of one or more advanced (Level 3 or 4) , in CTE courses that are part of a coherent sequence of courses in the selected CTE Program of Study.

In addition to developing advanced technical knowledge and skills needed for success in the Arts, Audio/Video Technology, and Communications Career Cluster, students will be expected to develop an advanced technical understanding of the business aspects of the chosen program of study. Instruction may be delivered through lab-based classroom experiences or career preparation opportunities. NOTE: This course is double blocked. 


CAREER PREPARATION I 

Grade: 11–12 Credit: 2 Course #1626 

Prerequisite: Successful completion of two or more credits in CTE courses that are part of a coherent sequence of courses in the same CTE Program of Study.

Career Preparation I provide opportunities for students to participate in a work-based learning experience that combines classroom instruction with business and industry employment experiences. The goal is to prepare students with a variety of skills for a changing workplace. Career preparation is relevant and rigorous, supports student attainment of academic standards, and effectively prepares students for college and career success.
