Welcome

Dear Cavalier Nation,

One of the trademarks of being a high school student is choosing your courses for the upcoming school year. While this endeavor is exciting, it can also be a little overwhelming. The courses you choose while at Lake Travis High School will set the stage for your future. This task may seem daunting, but I want to reassure each of you that there are resources available to assist you and your parents in this decision. Please take the time to thoroughly read through the requirements to graduate from Lake Travis High School. Our course descriptions are provided to give you an overview of the content and rigor of a particular course.

There are various levels of instruction offered with many of the courses in this year’s catalog. We have made some name changes in our course catalog. Pre-AP classes that do not have an equivalent Advanced Placement class have been renamed as Honors courses. For example, Algebra II Pre-AP is now Algebra II Honors. However, classes that have undergone a name change will maintain the same grade point average value as in previous years. There were no changes to the naming conventions for AP and OnRamps courses. We will continue to encourage students to choose courses that are academically challenging, but we ask families to choose courses that help students achieve their next steps after high school. It is tempting to take as many advanced courses as possible; however, while this is suitable for some students, every student is unique and needs to determine his/her own appropriate course load. This decision should be based on a student’s goals, interests, and time commitments outside of school to include extracurricular activities.

We are excited about the variety of courses offered for the following year, and we are happy to assist you and your student in this process. Remember, there is no one path for every student. If you have any questions about the course catalog, please reach out to your counselor, teachers, and principals. These individuals are part of your support network at Lake Travis High School.
