l have been involved in the arts since the age of 6 when my teacher referred me for the talented art program. In second grade I entered the program and learned about so many different media, techniques and artists. My love was drawing and sculpture, In my senior year in high school I interned at two artist owned studios. Hasslock Studios was a production pottery studio that specialized in personalized pottery and Stone and Paper (closed now) was an arts school that specialized in Pottery, drawing and painting classes for community members. I felt privileged to be given the opportunity to hone my skills in something I loved to do! It was because of my teachers that I pursued the arts in college.
In college I wanted to be a sculptor and ended up finding my home in the ceramics studio. I loved to make handbuilt sculpture, but I also learned how to throw on the pottery wheel. While in college I worked at the Acadiana Center for the Arts spackling, painting and hanging art shows with some big shot college professors I still love to this day!
I earned my BFA in 2008 and Graduated as the Outstanding Graduate for the College of the Arts. I spent my next year after graduating traveling and doing service work with AmeriCorps NCCC and it was during that time that I decided that I would return to school to get my teaching certificate. While in school again at UL I started teaching in the community at a pottery studio called, Pottery Alley and I student taught under the great Ms. Bobbette Castile of Lafayette High.
My first teaching experience was at Cecilia High school. I taught Art I, Fine Art Survey and Sculpture and helped with our Art Club. I did that for 1.5 years. I then moved to Thibodaux with my family and eventually got a job teaching second Grade for one year. There were no art positions open at the time. The next year however I got the job at the Talented Art Teacher for Assumption Parish and I taught students from K-12th grade at 8 different schools. I did that for 5 years. My kids and I moved back to Lafayette in the summer of 2019. I have been at Comeaux High since. I love what I do and love coming up with ways to share what I love.
