Students will learn about Surrealism, an art movement made most Popular by Salvador Dali, by looking at a Surrealism Powerpoint.
We will then look at the book called If... by Sarah Perry to see some of her interpretations of What If scenarios.
Students will then choose two words from a hat and complete the If Statement:
Ex. Car and Lemur
If a Lemur could Drive
Students will then look up images to convey their theme from the internet or take pictures at home and post it in the Surrealism Photo Slideshow
Students will then sketch out their compositions onto their paper.
Keep in Mind the Following:
Have your object break the picture plane
Make it Huge
No focal point in the middle.
We will be paring watercolor and colored pencil. Watercolor will be our base color and we will build deeper and more rich color with our watercolor.
Students will paint 3 spheres using blending techniques in watercolor.
Students will layer 3 spheres using blending techniques in colored pencil.
Students will now begin drawing their final render of their IF Statement on Bristol Board. Lines must be clean and light and then they may begin to watercolor their drawings.
Students will begin layering colored pencil over their watercolor in layers. Slowing building to the darkest shades.
