Remembrance 2022
Welcome to my weekly blog and I hope you and your families are well.
Today marked our annual Remembrance service and it fills me with great pride to share some of the details from the service.
At 10.45am the whole school community gathered on the North Courts to observe a series of readings and a stunning performance from our students. It was clear from the moment that the first student led his class out to the courts that the community understands and respects this annual occasion. Students gathered in silence ahead of the start and maintained the highest levels of respect throughout the entire service.
It was our pleasure to welcome officers from the British Army and the Royal Navy to be part of the event and stand with us whilst pausing to Remember all of the men, women and animals who have fought in wars and sacrificed themselves to protect our freedoms. Conflict has touched every nation, every religion, every race, every country and every family and we believe it is our responsibility to discuss and educate each and every person within our community to respect and honour this significant day.

In addition, every student in Year 7, Year 8, and Year 9, has created a poppy to contribute to the Remembrance display shown in the photographs below. Students' read the famous World War One poem 'In Flanders Field', learnt why we wear poppies over the period of Remembrance, learnt about the symbolic meaning of the poppy, and learnt what each colour poppy represents for Remembrance Day.

Help During the Cost of Living Crisis
Help During the Cost of Living Crisis
The Council and partners are working hard to support and guide residents through the cost-of-living crisis.
A great, comprehensive, new Help in Brum leaflet, is just out that covers everything from warm welcome spaces, to benefits and money advice, energy efficiency and food provision.
Hours are also being extended at two council Neighbourhood Advice and Information Centres, in Erdington and Northfield, to help support people.

The Year 9 ESA Team opened their league campaign with a comprehensive 8-0 win away at Colmers School this week. A special mention to Dodzi Sanchez who played two years above his age group and handled the intensity of the game very well.
Thank you to Mr Jenkins who took the Year 10 Football Team who also played Colmers School. I know the students enjoyed the game and worked hard right until the final whistle.
Gurpurab Celebrations
Gurpurab Celebrations
On Tuesday 8th November, the staff came together to celebrate one of the many faiths represented here at LBS. It was a pleasure to celebrate this special day by dressing in traditional Indian suits, tasting local delicacies and engaging in conversations about the festival.
Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, is the most important festival for the followers of the religion of Sikhism.
It is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
The festival is celebrated on the fifteenth lunar day in the month of Kartik according to the Hindu calendar, and usually falls in the month of November.

Mr Janes, Director of Sport and Mrs Lowndes-Ford, Director of music have been visiting our local primary schools over the past term. Last Friday, they took our Sport and Music Ambassadors to visit Summerfield primary school to deliver a range of Workshops.
Our Ambassadors were absolutely fantastic, engaging with the primary students and detailing why Lordswood Boys' School is such a great school.
