Students have been working incredibly hard this half term showcasing their key literacy skills: Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening
Students spend each morning reading and completing literacy and numeracy challenges such as the weekly spelling test. Year 10 focus on comprehension and grammar as well as they continuously strive to improve their literacy skills.
The new planners are looking brilliant as students practice their spellings and numeracy.
Students in Year 10 have been reading a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and studying challenging concepts like the allegorical representation of sins as a 'chain'. 10.5 worked in teams to create the longest chain to represent Marley’s chain and his sins. All students, even those new to the class, demonstrated excellent recall of quotations, plot and character. Students were able to demonstrate this half term’s virtues of respect and leadership as they competed against other teams.
Year 11 have been studying Macbeth in their English lessons and discussing some challenging concepts through silent debate.
Using different coloured pens students write down their opinions on the statements and, using their knowledge, argue for or against.
Some brilliant, focussed exam practice and demonstrating an excellent understanding of a very difficult text!
RJ (Year 10) on how Charles Dickens presents Scrooge's attitude to Charity in A Christmas Carol.
Zeeshan, Year 11 on how Shakespeare presents Macbeth.
We can't wait to see all the amazing work continue from our students next half term!
