At the end of last half term we spent the whole week doing what we do best... Reading!
Students enjoyed getting stuck in to some amazing novels and developed their literacy skills along the way. Please enjoy Part 2 of our Reading Week Highlights!
It was incredible to see students growing in confidence with their reading aloud and sharing these skills with the class!
Year 7 were reading: Space Case
Year 8 were reading: War Horse/ Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Year 9 were reading: Treasure Island/ Northern Lights
Students from the Colts designed their own magical sweets from Wonka's factory and presented them to the class
With the help of Ms Dawson & Mr Hussain, students got creative in the Art & Design workshops designing Treasure Maps as they read all about the adventures of Long John Silver in Treasure Island!
These are now proudly on display in our classrooms!
Year 8 students worked with Mrs McKeon and Mrs Davis-Musabayana in their drama workshops to look at the inspiration behind War Horse and how they could use the book to inspire their own pieces of theatre.
The boys focussd on how they could use staging to show life in the trenches and a WW1 gas attack.
At the end of Reading Week we always close with a celebration showcase where students from each literacy group put together what they have learned about their novel and present to the rest of the year.
There were incredible presentations from poems to quizzes, PowerPoints and dramatic readings of their work.
To see students from every year group stand up and have the confidence to talk about literacy is inspiring.
The Colts spent the week reading Charlie and the Chocolate factory and then had the 'best day ever!' at Cadbury world with Ms Baker and Ms Ali, experiencing their very own chocolate factory - eating it, making it, writing with it.
The students loved how the trip brought the book to life for them.. all it was missing was Willy Wonka himself!
Thank you to everyone who took part in making Reading Week such a success!
