It’s May which means exam season has begun! As our year 11s begin their exams, we’ve got some tips for anyone preparing for exams, or just studying and revising to get ahead.
Stay hydrated – Before you even start revising, it is so important to be well-rested, hydrated and to have eaten something. Your body fuels your mind, so we must fuel our body first! Start a revision day with a big glass of water and some breakfast.
Blurting - Get a piece of A4 or A3 paper and without looking at your notes, write down everything you remember about the revision topic. Blurting acts a good way to test how much you would actually remember in an exam. After you've written down everything you can remember, compare it to your notes and add what you've missed in a different colour. These are the bits on which you need to do some extra revision.
Be the teacher - Grab a friend, sibling or grown up and teach them everything about your revision topic. The act of teaching someone else, and being able to answer their questions means you will really embed your understanding of the topic, and will be able to answer any questions in the exam.
Pomodoro - The Pomodoro technique is a great method for focus. One round of Pomodoro is 25 minutes of focus, followed by a 5 minute break. Complete four rounds of focus before taking a longer 15 minute break. Repeat in blocks of four as needed. You can also use handy timers like the one found here to measure your rounds.
We also have some top tips from Ms Greatrix, our Vice-Principal:
Be in school EARLIER than usual - 8.00am/8.15am
EAT breakfast - no matter how small this may be
Remember your PENS/PENCILS/PENCIL CASE
Look SMART - set your standards HIGH....always
REST properly at home - no distractions
Be DISCIPLINED with revision.......it'll be worth it
All your hard work will pay off when you're getting your results this summer... good luck!
