Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
Reading Fahrenheit 451 plunged the Year 9s into a strange and unsettling world in which books are illegal. Protagonist Guy Montag's job as a fireman is not to put out fires, but to start them, burning books and the homes of anyone who owns them. Over time, though, he becomes curious about books. He begins to question why they must be burned. This novels tells the story of his journey of self-discovery and rebellion against an oppressive society.
What did the Year 9s get up to?
The students got creative by designing book covers and playlists to accompany the book, showing off their expressive and visionary side! They also responded to the book's themes by thinking about things that make a difference in the world: the books that are important to them, the issues they care about and the legacy they want to leave behind. It was wonderful to read their thoughtful poetry and witness their unique ideas.
