TedEd

Build a lesson around any TED-Ed Original, TED Talk or YouTube video.

TEDEd is a website that allows teachers to create lessons around YouTube videos. Teachers can select YouTube videos and use their URLs to add questions in different formats. The added value of this tool is that it has a section where teachers can track stats of how many have answered answers and how many students have seen the lesson.

TED-Ed Clubs The TED-Ed Clubs program supports students in discovering, exploring and presenting their big ideas in the form of short, TED-style talks. TED-ed invites the most compelling speakers from TED-Ed Clubs to New York twice a year. Each club also receives TED-Ed's flexible public speaking curriculum, and opportunities to connect with a global network of passionate youth about ideas worth sharing.

PlayPosit is an online learning environment to create and share interactive video lessons. Teachers begin with any online video (screencasts, Khan Academy, TED, etc.) and transform what is traditionally passive content into an active experience for students, with time-embedded activities. Play Posit is for the more advanced technology-using teacher. In addition to questions, teachers can insert text, images, and hyperlinks into videos imported from YouTube, TeacherTube, and other websites. Play Posit also includes a variety of analytical tools that allow teachers to monitor both student performance and the time students spent viewing the content. Though Play Posit might be a bit more sophisticated than other similar tools, its benefits can potentially pay off in the long run. Basic program is free.

Getting Started with PlayPosit

Edpuzzle

Edpuzzle allows you to use only what you need from any video, insert audio notes or record over a video with your voice, and add questions at any point in the video and track your students' understanding. If you sign in with your Google account and you have Google Classrooms, Edpuzzle integrates with your GOOGLE CLASSROOM!

Here are a few best practices to make your video-lessons more engaging to your students:

  1. Keep your videos under 10 minutes. Students are more focused when videos are short.
  2. Add 2 or 3 multiple-choice or open-ended questions to check for understanding.
  3. Embed one or two audio-notes. Students pay x3 more attention when they hear a familiar voice.
  4. Share your excitement. If your students learn through the video, celebrate it!

Google Forms has made it possible for users to insert YouTube videos into their forms. You can now embed YouTube videos into forms and ask students questions to ensure they watch the video. Check out this guide to learn how more about how to insert videos into Google Forms.
