A name is required for all POIs. Alternate names are included as needed.
One name is included per POI. This is the English version of the name, unless the local name is generally used by English speakers or the relevant regional style sheet calls for a different approach. Acronyms, alternate names and translations may be captured in the Alternate Name field.
POI names always take title case, even in cases where a proper noun is not being used.
If a POI starts with a definite article, the article is omitted unless not doing so will create confusion. A pub called ‘The Fox & Hound’ is referred to as ‘Fox & Hound’; a bar called ‘The Bar’ retains the definite article.
This can be an alternate name, a local-language translation or an abbreviation/acronym. Alternative names or translations are included only where it is informative or useful.
Multiple entries in this field are separated by a comma.
The script version of the name can also be included (always comes before any other entries). Usage of script is determined in the relevant regional style sheet.
