Alphabetise extended characters (eg é, ł, ş) from the 26 characters in the Roman alphabet following standard English order, as if the accent weren’t there. Nonstandard characters (ie characters that are completely different, such as þ) are alphabetised according to the conventions of that language. Symbols like @ and & come before ‘a’.
Entries that begin with numerals are ordered numerically and appear before the first ‘A’ entry:
