Do you believe in unicorns? At the end of November, the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control got a very strange, but adorable letter. The letter read, "I would like your approval if I can have a unicorn in my backyard if I can find one. Please send me a letter in response."
The letter was sent from an adorable 6 year old girl, Madeline. This smart kid knew that she would need a license or permission to keep a unicorn in her backyard.
Director Mayeda responded telling Madeline that she can keep a unicorn under certain conditions. She said Madeline must polish the unicorn’s horn with a soft cloth once a month. Feed it watermelon at least once a week. Covering it with nontoxic sparkles. And giving it access to moonbeams, sunlight, and rainbows.
Then Mayeda sends the little girl a “preapproved unicorn license” for her future pet. Madeline received a certificate on pink pastel paper. She also received a unicorn plushie with a pink heart shaped tag engraved with the words “permanent unicorn license”. As well as all these Madeya wrote a letter saying,”I commend your sense of responsible pet ownership to seek permission in advance to keep a unicorn in Los Angeles County”
This precious moment shared between the Animal Care Control Director, Madeya and lovable 6 year old Madeline made my day and I hope it made yours too.
