Voting Age: A Controversy
The debate of the voting age has been argued for a long time now. Is an 18 year minimum too low? Too high? Below are pros and cons for both.
Some tend to say that age requirements should be raised, and they do have a solid point. 18 year olds are still teenagers, which arguably means they can still make irresponsible decisions. This is likely because they have just graduated high school, and have more education to go through, like college. The right to vote is valuable enough to be only used in a sincere way. In addition, the immaturity of 18 year olds can cause them to be manipulated into voting for certain candidates.
Many are pushing for a lower voting age instead. After all, the newer generations may have ideas that other older people haven’t yet thought of. And teens' opinions shouldn’t simply be ignored due to not being old enough. One’s intelligence and ability to use their rights wisely shouldn’t solely be defined by their age. After all, there are probably 16 year olds who are more responsible than 20+ year olds, and vice versa.
In conclusion, there are many arguments in favor of lowering the voting age and many arguments for heightening it. Which do you agree with?
