Literacy and Edtech

Developing Oracy using technology

'Another exciting point for me in doing the research was observing the amount of time children spent looking up words in a dictionary. It would take some children quite a long time to look through all the different words in the dictionary. But, by utilising the technology, they can look up more words in the same amount of time, which improves their vocabulary and the breadth of words they can put into their writing'

How has EdTech helped improve learner confidence in literacy? PLEO 49

'Some pupils have found English to be a tricky subject with tricky tasks because there are many components that they need to be able to apply to produce a high-quality piece of writing. By implementing technology, those are reduced so that children can focus on whether it's transcriptional, composition, vocabulary, choice, and this has allowed them to produce greater pieces of work because of the implementation of technology'

What is the relationship between writing and digital technology? PLEO 50

'Think in terms of writing and the relationship between digital and written work is that it's the same process for every subject. The technology is used to enhance the writing process. So you can use things like ThingLink for example, that link up various resources that the children can choose to use and then that's more generic. These are now more to help me with describing this character. So if I move round the writing room you can see there is a little computer and a little office space where a writer might be working. What's most important are the essential aspects and that's really good subject knowledge training for teachers'
