LFSMUN was first conceived in December 2022 by students of the LFS with ambitious objectives. Learn more about what LFSMUN is, and what it aims at achieving.
Model United Nations, also known under its acronym MUN, is an academic representation and simulation of UN conferences, in which students participate in the role of various representatives of the United Nations. Most students are Delegates who represent diverse countries and are invited to write and debate upon resolutions tackling real world issues from the perspective of their assigned country. Hence, it is important to note that delegates are expected to speak for their country’s opinions and policies, instead of their own. In each committee, debates are hosted and led by two to three chairs. Delegates may approach their chairs if they have any questions or requests related to the debate.
LFSMUN is a project put forth as a "citizen engagement project" ("projet d'engagement citoyen") recognized by the Council for High School Life (CVL) of the LFS.
LFSMUN IV will be a two-day Model United Nations conference held at the Lycée Français de Séoul (LFS) on April 3rd and 4th, 2026. Invited schools within the Asia-Pacific Zone are to send their participants for this in-person conference, which will follow the typical format of MUN conferences.
LFSMUN is a project focused on cooperation and on the enjoyment of the debating experience. It is not a competitive contest, being rather oriented towards a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where delegates feel comfortable and well surrounded to experience diplomacy.
Our project has been designed to require a reduced workload from Delegates: they will not need to go through the full, lengthy preparation typically required by MUN. The Secretariat and Student Officers will accompany them and allow them to organize themselves so that they can prepare in a concise and efficient manner.
Firstly, we hold the objective of offering a fruitful experience to all participants. By insisting on the specific and yet essential skills that can be acquired through MUN, we aim at ensuring that all participants learn from their experience with us and find useful tools that will guide them through their academic path. This goes from public speaking to leadership, across numerous competencies. Our project offers a different learning experience, which maximizes synergy in a cooperative environment. Meanwhile, personal reflection on global issues is also central to our project: participants will have a full opportunity to utilize their critical thinking skills.
Secondly, we hope that students from diverse backgrounds and schools will find the opportunity to learn to cooperate and work together for a common goal. LFSMUN will mix students who would rarely meet otherwise, and allow them to communicate and act upon their own initiative. We see that MUN has mutual help and advice at its core: we hope that participants will learn to learn by themselves and with their peers.
Thirdly, we are looking at the prospect of making MUN accessible to all. By offering synthetic preparation and putting an emphasis on Student Officer and Secretariat support, we will reduce the workload of Delegates so that they do not feel uneasy to join our project. A relaxed, friendly and above all welcoming atmosphere will open us to more participants and help them gain confidence as the event unfolds.
Fourthly, we seek to promote MUN activities in the LFS and beyond. MUN is a rising star for the LFS, and LFSMUN will contribute to the dynamism of and interest in MUN, always in coordination with other projects.
Fifthly, we hope that LFSMUN will forge stronger relations between participating schools and create a sustainable network which enhances the visibility of the debating activities, especially English-speaking, of the schools involved in LFSMUN.
Ultimately, LFSMUN is all about the Delegates; this conference will foster the determined mindsets of responsible and engaged future citizens and leaders.
