Here is an overview of each committee, its role within the United Nations, and the issues that are going to be debated in each of them, during the conference.
Each year, LFSMUN proposes four committees to delegates.
All of these committees have their own uniqueness; hence, there are different advantages in participating as a delegate of each of these committees.
It is highly recommended that delegates choose their committee based on their interests, and perhaps, future prospects, to ensure that they partake in an enjoyable conference.
For Delegates who do not have a particular interest in specifically one committee, the Secretariat recommends them consider the difficulty of each committee based on the classification below. However, it is important to remember that choosing a committee based on personal interest is more effective than basing the choice on difficulty. In other words, a committee that might appear beginner-friendly at first might be just as difficult as others if the Delegate is not interested in the issues it discusses. This chart is not intended to limit or restrain Delegates in their decision-making process; but rather to guide them.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Economic and Social Council are committees open to all delegates, from first timers to more experienced ones. These two committees generally tackle issues that are more accessible and less challenging to debate on compared to the two other committees.
The Human Rights Council and the Security Council are also open to all delegates. However, as they tackle more sensitive issues, or operate based on a specific system (which is the case of the Security Council), these committees are more accessible to with debate experience. However, first-timers who wish to have a more intense debating experience are welcomed to choose these committees.
