In March 2022, a team of 10 delegates from the French School of Seoul (LFS) prepared by directors Ms. Amach and Mr. Xavier participated in the Singapore International Model United Nations (SIMUN XVII) held online.
This year, in 2023, the project has grown larger for SIMUN XVIII !!!
The two directors will lead a group of twenty-two participants including 6 returnees and 1 student-officer for the conference which will take place in Singapore, at the International French School (IFS).
SIMUN XVIII will gather students from various international schools for a Model United Nations conference in February 2022, offering an excellent opportunity for participants to learn from a different type of work. Indeed, collaboration, public speaking and debate are in the core of MUN, allowing delegates to take a new point of view on issues of global importance.
We hope that this ambitious project will both serve as an opportunity for participants to acquire crucial skills that will allow them to gain leadership, and for the LFS to expand its network beyond the borders of Korea.
The Singapore International Model United Nations (SIMUN) is an official simulation of a United Nations conference hosted each year at the International French School of Singapore (IFS).
MUN is an educational project, giving an opportunity for students interested in international relations, diplomacy, and political science, as well as challenges for the common development of the world, to reveal their potential as future leaders and learn and exchange on international issues. Following the UN Charter and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), MUN is structured within the UN rules of procedure and values, which participants are encouraged to respect.
SIMUN follows in particular the The Hague Model United Nations (THIMUN) structure, which insists on cooperation between its participants, eliminating competition.
The conference involves the use of several academic and non-academic skills by high school students. Students are open to a broad range of tasks and responsibilities within the conference’s organization thanks to the large number of participants. Roles such as Delegate, Head Chair, Deputy Chair, Press Team and Secretary are offered to ensure the proper functioning of the simulation. A unique experience is thus offered by SIMUN, stimulating curiosity and enthusiasm for students keen to learn.
LFS students are mostly Delegates, which is the main role within the simulation. Becoming ambassadors representing the country they are assigned to within their committees, such as Security Council or Human Rights Council, the LFS team is currently preparing for the conference, building their knowledge on the countries they will be negotiating with and representing, and the subjects they will discuss and create resolutions for.
