Engaging the challenging choice to participate in a MUN conference is not an easy decision for students. Yet, our delegates are motivated to participate in SIMUN XVIII. Why?
Firstly, MUN is about developing one's personality and skills. The several steps involved in a MUN conference, from opening speeches to lobbying and debates on resolutions, mean that a large palette of competencies can be acquired by taking part as a delegate.
The THIMUN (The Hague International Model United Nations) format focuses on delegates working together and discussing issues as a group, rather than on competition between delegates. This means that a positive learning environment is built, where participants can learn to exchange, debate and offer ideas. Public speaking is an essential skill a student should master; and it is one of the many talents MUN can help build, beyond the pure academia of high school.
Secondly, MUN allows delegates to understand the world. It is a unique opportunity to stand in the position of a diplomat to the United Nations and represent a country's view. Many face the challenge of representing ideas they do not believe in about difficult geopolitical issues; yet this offers them the possibility to take a different point of view and to better see the diversity of positions that may be taken on a matter. Delegates rise as the leaders of tomorrow, building cooperation and reflection to tackle major issues.
Thirdly, SIMUN XVIII is aligned with the goals sought by the LFS. In continuity with the objectives of internationalization and opening set by years of evolution, SIMUN allows the school to establish deeper connections with other international schools of the Asia-Pacific region including the IFS (International French School, Singapore), but also to promote the English-speaking, international aspect of the school. As a French school in Seoul, the LFS has a distinct identity which will create synergy between it and the other schools of SIMUN.
For all these reasons, we participate in SIMUN XVIII. Varied reasons motivate our participants; but it is above all an ultimately enjoyable and instructive experience for all to enjoy.
