Read: If you didn't finish your homework (or understand it), you may reread, but you need to be sure that you are on track for next class. Ask questions as you read, make sure you are stopping periodically to check to see that you understood what you just read, take notes if you need to, etc.

Write: In your groups, work on your paragraph. When you think you're getting to a good place, make sure you ask me to read it. Be sure you are citing your source correctly! (If you use Coyle's name in the paragraph, you don't have to use his name in the parenthesis. You can just put the page number. If you didn't put his name in the paragraph, it needs to go in front of the page number. Examples:

  • Coyle says, "He was a wellspring of belonging cues" (12).
  • Explaining that Nick was a "wellspring of belonging cues" (Coyle 12).

Reflect: What was difficult about writing your paragraph? What was easy? What do you need to work on?

Group Work: Come up with a way to organize your work on the post-it. (circles, squares, cute stuff, or just lines). Afterward, each person gets a different color marker to write their thoughts (so we know who did what). Then, you need to include the following things:

  • Summary of chapter 3 or 4
  • 2 rhetorical strategies (narrative/anecdote, from chapter 3 or 4
  • and how they function to drive the message the author is conveying.

Share out.

Homework: Read through the end of part 1 (chapter 6).
