1. Sign into Google Classroom f0bt5w

2. Answer the question on Classroom: How did your group function together when you did the activity in Mrs. Cole's class? Was there a set leader or positive person in the group?

  • Once you answered the question, bookmark this website (by clicking on the "about" sign in Classroom)
  • then sign up for Remind text to 81010 message @4fk6bd

3. Begin reading the introduction of The Culture Code. Discuss how the author makes specific choices and rhetorical "moves" to make his point more persuasive.

4. In your groups, work together to come up with one answer (as a group) that one person will type into mentimeter. Go to menti.com and put in code 32 60 35

  • Describe some of the key "take aways" from the introduction (summarize)
  • How does he persuade us to continue reading?
  • What does he purposefully neglect to say in the introduction?

5. Discuss the comments above.

6. Read chapter 1, and observe the rhetorical decisions (or "moves") Coyle makes to persuade the audience. What he says matters just as much as what he DOES NOT say. Structure also matters. Observe how he uses structure to his advantage. If you finish before your group is ready to start talking, just keep reading. You should read to page 26 for homework, but I'm only asking you to get to page 15 right now.

7. As your group, discuss the rhetorical decisions you observed.

8. Before you leave today, let's discuss

Homework: Read through page 26 in The Culture Code. You DON'T have to annotate, but I do expect you to each be able to tell me about the decisions Coyle made in order to make his argument more persuasive. Due Monday, August 27th.
