Learning Spaces

Learning Commons

The Learning Commons is a learning space, similar to libraries and classrooms that share space for information technology, remote or online education, tutoring, collaboration, content creation, meetings and reading or study. At Bishop McNally, the Learning Commons has a variety of educational opportunities for students. A special section of the LC is available for students who are scheduled in for support, while another section is available for students on spares.

Academic Centre

Students may select Academic Center as an option in their schedule. Registering in Academic Center provides a space for students to access learning support from teachers and educational assistants on assignments and course material in other classes. Attendance is taken like a regular quarter or semester classes, but no credits are received.

Assessment Centre - room 2027

The Assessment Center is a quiet space (room) where students can catch up on any missing assignment or assessment. Teachers and Educational Assistants work closely together in organizing the necessary information that is needed for any student who to make up on missing work in their respective classes.

Self-Directed Studies (SDS) - room 2026

This Program, based out of St. Anne's Academic Center seeks to enhance learning opportunities for high school students by offering students the option of taking a variety of subjects, at the high school level, through an online or print environment. Enrollment in SDS courses happen on Grade 10 registration day in August.

Who would benefit from taking an SDS course?

  • Independent learners - students work through modules independently

  • Schedule restrictions - A course required can not be scheduled into the schedule

  • Students missing 1 or 2, 30 level credits for graduation

SDS is not for everyone; it should not just be used to fill a schedule.
