These programs are designed for students who have had little or no prior instruction in French or Spanish before entering High School. The students taking these courses will develop four language skills: (Listening, Reading, Comprehension and Oral/Written production) needed to understand and communicate with native speakers.

The CCSD French Immersion Bilingual Certificate is a culmination of a student’s studies in French Immersion. In order to qualify for the certificate, a student must have earned a minimum of 30 credits as follows:

• 15 credits in FLA 10 , 20 and 30 (mandatory)

• 15 credits in Mathématiques 10, 20 and 30 AND/OR Études Sociales 10, 20 and 30

The Spanish Bilingual Program provides high school students with a rich environment for learning cultures and subject-area content. After completing the Junior High Spanish Bilingual Program, students in grades 10 through 12 have the opportunity to progress and continue their bilingual studies at the high school level.

Students who have completed a minimum of 25 credits in the Spanish Bilingual Program including the mandatory completion of SLA 10-20-30 and Film and Media Art 15-25, will receive a certificate of completion.

Eligibility:

• Students who are currently enrolled in the Grade 9 Spanish Bilingual Program may register.

• Students wishing to enter the Spanish Bilingual Program for the first time at the Grade 10 level, must first take a language proficiency assessment exam.

It is possible to challenge the French 30, Spanish 30, Filipino 35 courses and earn 15 credits towards your high school diploma. The challenge exam consists of a written, reading, listening and speaking part each worth 25% of the final mark.

If you are a native speaker and French, Spanish or Filipino is your first language, then this is a good idea for you because the courses offered are for beginners.
