Skill 1: Understand the six tenets of cell theory and prove that they are supported by evidence.
[Take notes on the cell theory, including modern cell theory in your science notebook.]
Modern Cell Theory
With new technology and discoveries, the original cell theory has been modified to include three additions:
Cells contain genetic information (DNA), which is passed on during cell division.
The cells of all organisms are basically the same, in chemical composition. This means they are made of water and our four macromolecules (Carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids.)
Energy flow occurs within cells.
You have two options for the following notes:
Annotate on a printed copy, adding notes, clarifications, examples, related doodles, and questions. Secure it into your notebook.
Copy the notes into your science notebook, organized in a way that makes sense to you. Include notations, as above.
Absent? If you are unable to get a paper copy before next class, you may make an electronic copy and use comments to make annotations.
Bio.3a Cell Theory is supported by evidence
Summary - Skill 1: [Understand the six tenets of cell theory and prove that they are supported by evidence.]
[In a paragraph, discuss cell theory and the evidence that supports it. Do not restate the six tenets; rather, discuss why cell theory and it's evidence are important. You may use the sentence starters below, but you do not have to.]
[Cell theory was developed to explain...]
[The evidence that supports cell theory...]
[It is important to understand cell theory because...]
[Write at least one more sentence with a main idea from this skill.]

Today, we'll see if you are a "hand washing hero."
This is a class activity. Just skip over it until instructed otherwise.
In his activity, we put fake germs on our hands, which show up under black lights. Then, we wash our hands and put them under the black light again, to see how well we washed them. Usually, it's not too well!
