LAB Science Department has wasted no time in planning a robust set of online lessons to ensure all our pupils are progressing through the national curriculum as well as looking at key content for the Year 9's so they continue to prepare for starting their GCSEs next year.
As I type this, Team Science are working away recording a series of videos on the key concepts and we will also be filming a series of practical demos to help Science come alive a little more. Watch this space!
Year 7- Currently Yr 7 are learning about the Reactions topic. This introduces the chemistry behind chemical reactions. Pupils will learn about specific reactions, chemical equations, specifically - what reactants and products are and the energy changes in a chemical reaction.
Year 8- Our Yr 8 are completing a series of lessons all about specific reactions of metals (with oxygen, acids, water and more) and will also look at the reactivity series. Following this, we will go on to learning all about acids and alkalis, the pH scale and will even have a practical to do from home!
Year 9- All our Yr 9 pupils will be looking at the key concept 'Turning points in Chemistry'. This topic looks at key discoveries in Science, the process that lead to them and the impacts of each discovery. This will encourage them to have greater appreciation for the scientific process as well as provide key background for GCSE content. Going from here, we will look at 'New Technology in Chemistry' and introduce the nanoparticle, a tiny particle that has literally thousands of potential uses.
