Continuing our Design Ventura competition, in connection with the Design Museum and Deutsche Bank, our students have been taking part in this national competition by making lots of imaginative paper forms, and have even started sketching some of their own ideas to design a product that will improve everyday life. We have had lots of great ideas: from Google translate pens and rechargeable ipad cases made from recyclable materials, to developmental toys for toddlers and reading tables designed for hand-free reading.
Two of our students took their paper forms one step further and developed them into fully realised objects. With one making a functional football table to keep him and his family entertained in lockdown and the other making a mouse run for her pet mouse!
We have seen some fantastic work from our students and want to congratulate them on their ability to produce work of this quality so independently, whilst working from home.

The Paper forms workshop that the students have taken part in was led by Designer and Educator Haidée Drewr. For more information on this workshop, please see Paper Forms Workshop Video.

We are getting closer to finishing our Upcycling Garden Project with our Year 9 students, as they start to sketch and rate 3D prototype models of their final designs. The project is designed to encourage students to explore their understanding of sustainability and global issues of consumer waste.
Students have modelled a range of outdoor products using only materials from home and the outcomes are fantastic. Pictured are just some of the models made by our students; we can’t wait to see these come to life when we finally return to school.

The co-op have joined forces with the release of the new film The Croods 2: A New Age. They would like you to design a Croods inspired treehouse with the chance to win a treehouse built for our LAB community.
What: Design your own treehouse using the template. It can be as wacky as you want, let your imagination run wild!
How: You can draw, paint, use computer software or even cave drawings to create your design, but above all be sure to think about how this could be used by the community and bring a lot of fun
Email all entries to Miss Endersby at emma.endersby@leighacademyblackheath.org.uk before the 12th February.
