What a fantastic year our budding linguists have had! It has been an incredible few months for our DPA learners with our French club, weekly French lessons and French penfriends, not forgetting our Year 6 conversation groups led by our Leigh Academy colleague.
Year 3 have entered their language learning journey with great enthusiasm and have amazed me with their ability to already communicate in French and apply their grammatical and phonics knowledge. This term, year 3 have learned numbers to 20, days and months as well as fruits and can now express their likes and dislikes.
Year 4 have explored the topic of family. They have learned the names of family members, the grammatical rules to say “my” in French and are now able to talk about siblings. The children finally made lovely trioramas to display their knowledge.
Year 5 have recently acquired the vocabulary relating to clothing. They can now describe what clothes they are wearing at school, during leisure time and in different weather. They have also revised colours and applied it to this new topic, displaying their grammatical understanding of word order and adjectival agreement in French.
Finally, Year 6 have learned about the topic of school. They have acquired and practised the vocabulary of school subjects and are able to give their opinion and explain why they enjoy or dislike a particular subject. I wish year 6 well in their new secondary school, hoping that the linguistic skills they have learned at DPA serves them well, whether they carry on studying French or any other language.
Bonnes vacances!
Miss Cowdry.
