IB News
What an amazing year we've had at DPA! As an IB World School, we've eagerly explored our six transdisciplinary themes, leading to fantastic student-led actions.
Across the academy, it has been completely action packed! Some of the highlights include: numerous year groups raising money for charities such as Barnado’s and Wells on Wheels; inquiry themed days such as Who We Are Day; the French Nativity, where the children impressed with their language skills; students taking part in the JASS Awards, where they have been litter picking and helping the local environment; and even the Year 6 Production! Amongst all of these fantastic events and opportunities, our children have shone through brilliantly and shown that they truly are ‘Determined, Persistent, Achievers learning to change the world!
We are thrilled to celebrate the Year 6 Exhibition as our students prepare to move on to secondary school. As part of the PYP, the children had a chance to present their work from this term at the Year 6 Exhibition! They were fortunate enough to meet with students from Eastcote Primary Academy, sharing and discussing the fascinating things they learned over the term. It was also a great chance to showcase the exciting activities our students have been involved in, including a preview of their production. The afternoon was packed with fun, featuring interesting discussions, videos, and live science demonstrations!
As we head into the summer break, we are once again asking for examples of action taken at home!
Actions at home or in the community can include:
Participating in a litter pick-up
Picking up trash at the beach or park
Making posters
Changing eating habits
Encouraging friends or family to eat healthy
Going on long walks
Helping out around the house
If your child takes any action, please SHARE WITH US on ClassDojo. The dojo pages will be updated with new class names over the summer, but you will still be able to post.
Careers Related Learning
What a great learning journey it has been! Throughout the term the children were given various opportunities to explore different careers. This began with our transdisciplinary theme - How we express ourselves - which gave all children an opportunity to learn about the different careers that are linked to their inquiry for the term. For example in year 1 , children explored pilots , zoologists and marine biologists. Across the academy children have become chefs , sculptors , designers and artists during their inquiry lessons. For example, in reception , children became artists by using vegetables to recreate paintings by Vasily Kandisky.
During Science and Art week , children came dressed up as Artists or Scientists to further develop their understanding of careers and the requirements needed for specific jobs.
We have had a great year of exploration and engagement with careers. We wish you all an amazing summer!
