◆ The color guard performs alongside the marching band at football games and several out-of-town competitions in the fall. Color guard utilizes colorful costuming, dance-inspired movement and spins, tosses and other creative work on equipment such as flags, prop rifles and other implements to visually portray the music being performed. Dance experience is a plus but not required. Co-curricular requirements: During marching season (first quarter), students must attend pre-season band camp, once-a-week evening rehearsals (Mondays, 6:30-8:30), sectionals, home football games and two out-of-town competitions. ◆ Dance 1 introduces fundamental movement principles and focuses on proper warm-up techniques to improve flexibility, strength, and body awareness. Students will explore Jazz, Modern, Swing, Tango and choreography. The course emphasizes dance history and cultural significance as well as healthy body management for injury prevention. Participation in the final performance includes mandatory evening rehearsals as each student will perform at least three pieces in a final presentation. This fosters creativity, discipline, and an appreciation of dance as an expressive art form. (1101)

Students will refine movement techniques, learn to create and structure original dance pieces, and gain practical experience in staging, lighting, costuming, and sound design. The course emphasizes collaboration where students prepare multiple pieces for a final production. Healthy body management and injury prevention remain as key components for sustainable practice. Additionally, students will delve into advanced stagecraft, lighting design, set creation, and production management to prepare for the final performance. Evening rehearsals are required. ◆ Dance 4 is an advanced course focused on refining dance technique, production skills, and arts management. Students will advance their movement techniques and work on professional-level choreographic reconstruction, emphasizing historically significant works. The course also introduces key concepts in arts management, including budgeting, marketing, fundraising, and event planning which will prepare students for the challenges of managing artistic projects. Hands-on experience in lighting, set design, costume creation, and stage management will be integral which students will apply for their final performance. Evening rehearsals are required. All aspects of the course are designed to provide a well-rounded experience in both the artistic and administrative sides of the dance world. (1199)
